Make the Most of Your Club Membership

More Than Just Diving – Your Club, Your Facilities, Your Community

When people think about joining a scuba diving club, they often focus on the diving. Yet one of the greatest benefits of membership is access to facilities, equipment, expertise, and support that help members build skills, grow confidence, and dive safely year-round.

Whether you are a newly qualified diver, an experienced instructor, a snorkeller, or simply enjoy being in and around the water, your membership offers more than many people realise.

Our Swimming Pool Sessions

Witham pools

The club’s regular pool sessions provide a safe, warm, and controlled environment where members of all experience levels can swim, maintain fitness, and build confidence.

Deep pool sessions support:

  • Snorkelling practice.
  • Dive training
  • Diving skills

Pool sessions can be used for:

  • Learning and practicing basic scuba skills.
  • Refreshing skills after a break from diving.
  • Improving buoyancy control.
  • Equipment familiarisation.
  • Testing new equipment before open water use.
  • Instructor and Dive Leader training exercises.

We hire a lane in the main pool on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month

  • Swimming practice and fitness training
  • Try dives

For new members, the pool is often where confidence begins. For experienced divers, it is a valuable way to maintain skills during winter or before a major dive trip.

Even an hour spent practicing mask skills, finning techniques, or buoyancy exercises can greatly improve comfort and enjoyment underwater.

Snorkelling – The Foundation of Good Diving

Snorkelling

Snorkelling remains one of the most underrated skills in diving.

Regular snorkelling sessions help to improve:

  • Water confidence.
  • Finning efficiency.
  • Breathing control.
  • Surface awareness.
  • General fitness.

Many advanced diving techniques are built upon good snorkelling skills, making pool sessions valuable for both divers and non-divers alike.

Club Equipment Available to Members

Club kit available to members

A key benefit of membership is access to club-owned equipment.

For new divers, this removes the pressure to buy expensive kit before knowing what suits them best.

Club equipment may include:

  • Cylinders.
  • Regulators.
  • Buoyancy Control Devices (BCDs).
  • Masks and snorkels.
  • Fins.
  • Weight systems.
  • Training equipment.
  • Surface Marker Buoys (SMBs).
  • Additional specialist equipment for training activities.

Using club equipment helps members gain experience with different setups before making purchase decisions.

Once qualified we charge a small amount of money for hiring kit for dive trips, it is free to use in the pool for all members, if we have availability.

Expert Advice and Equipment Guidance

Advice always available

Buying diving equipment can be confusing, especially with so many manufacturers, styles, and price ranges available.

Fortunately, the club has many experienced divers, instructors, and equipment specialists who are happy to help.

Members can seek advice on:

  • Selecting their first regulator set.
  • Choosing a BCD.
  • Drysuit and wetsuit options.
  • Dive computers.
  • Cylinders and valves.
  • Underwater cameras.
  • Torches and accessories.
  • Equipment maintenance.

A quick conversation with an experienced member can save money and help avoid costly mistakes.

Equipment Servicing and Testing

Advice on Equipment maintenance and servicing

Safe diving starts with well-maintained equipment. If you own your kit, the club can provide guidance and support on:

Cylinder Testing

Cylinder filling included in subs

All diving cylinders require periodic inspection and testing to remain safe and compliant.

Members can obtain advice on:

  • Visual inspections.
  • Hydrostatic testing.
  • Test intervals.
  • Valve servicing.
  • Oxygen-clean requirements.

Equipment Maintenance

Regular servicing supports both reliability and safety. Members can receive guidance on:

  • Regulator servicing schedules.
  • BCD inspections.
  • Drysuit maintenance.
  • Battery replacement for computers and torches.
  • Storage and transportation of equipment.

Experienced members can often spot potential issues before they become costly repairs or problems on a dive trip.

Club Air Fills

Access to club air fills is one of the most valuable membership benefits.

Rather than relying solely on commercial dive centres, members can benefit from:

  • Convenient access to breathing gas.
  • Free air fills while a member of the club.
  • Support from trained operators.
  • Availability before club trips and events.

Club filling facilities can save members time and money throughout the year.

The Club Meeting – More Than a Meeting Place

The weekly club meeting is the hub of our diving community.

It is a place where members can:

  • Arrange dives and trips.
  • Borrow equipment.
  • Discuss training opportunities.
  • Seek advice from experienced divers.
  • Access club records and information.
  • Meet fellow members and make new diving friends.

Many successful dive trips begin with a conversation in the meeting, pump room or round the pool areas.

For new members, spending time at the club builds confidence and creates opportunities to learn from experienced divers.

Learning from Fellow Members

The club’s greatest resource is its members.

Within the club are divers with experience in:

  • UK coastal diving.
  • Inland diving.
  • Specialist training, including boat diving, wreck diving, underwater photography, drysuit use, equipment maintenance, and dive leadership.

The club’s collective knowledge is worth far more than any single piece of equipment.
